New Beginnings
In 1948 a small group of individuals decided to create a riding club that eventually became known as the Umatilla Sage Riders.
2009 will be the 61st anniversary of this riding club.
The current board of directors are working to bring not only positive, member-driven changes, but to also bring back many of the traditions such as the drill team, relay racing, and more.
The purpose of this club shall be primarily:
To promote horseback riding as a sport.
To disseminate information among horse people and the general public as to Horsemanship, Riding Activities and proper care and treatment of horses.
To promote and manage the annual show.
To encourage the ownership of saddle horses.
To cooperate with other horse organizations in the social functions, and to encourage all horse activities which in the opinion of the membership of the club contribute to the maintenance of a sustained interest in the sport of horsemanship in the County of Umatilla.
